Anyone work in data protection?

If I have no formal experience in the area, how much is this worth doing?

I do not work in the field of data protection - no , sorry.

I do however work in the field of wasp protection. Not sure if i can be of any help?

My role is to basically shield - defend and protect wasps. I guard their buzzy busy little lives with my own life. I have protected all the top jaspers - all the celebs - all the main wasp faces and waspland criminalsps.

I have lost count of the amount of wasps ive saved that got trapped in half empty fosters pint glasses.

I get a real fuckin buzz out of it and im a bit lively - like a gypsy with a new bucket of creosote

I'm a DPO at my place. Haven't done any official qualifications, but have done The Knowledge Accademy's own certification on GDPR and DPO.

I don't think you really need any other particular qualifications - most of it is common sense, and the ICO helpline is great for if you're not sure. And given they enforce the regulation, their word is the one I take

Thanks for all the info chaps. Perhaps should have given a bit more context. Have done a variety of PM jobs in the past, I've got Prince2 and MSP, and seen the requirements for these on a couple of permanent public sector jobs recently. I've broadly done business transformation with elements of IT throughout my career and just wondering if anyone in DP roles had any views on the value of them...

Going back to the original question, the public internet is so "data leaky" that it is a literal cash-cow for the legal profession.

If you're not a lawyer, then getting into the support stream on that side of things could keep you in beers for a while.

That's the thing Bill... Everyone... and I mean EVERYONE with a smidgeon of IT savvy knows that when it comes to massive legacy systems Agile is an absolute disaster waiting to happen .... it's happening within my very own eyes (2 of the biggest Gov projects in recent years) .... yet it does not stop the political powers that be trying to shoehorn it through... absolute abortion...

yeah true chaps all true

but for ol c wing, i'd say that these GDPR courses are just people making money out of scaremongering, eg you can be sued for 20% of turnover etc

but agile for all its faults is sought after, you're right it doesnt work for all set ups, especially dyed in the wool pmo heavy sites, but gets you interviews

Agile is simply good old flavour-of-the-month, apple-for-the-teacher "management" dressed up with a snazzy, "hip" label that implies if you don't follow it, you're a sloth.

It's basically 3rd world culture trying to impose itself on a structured 1st world business environment.

Remind me again to where most IT work is currently outsourced?

Bill.... I work in IT for the Government... it's fucking HORRIFIC .... just like all massive legacy systems (banking, NHS, Gov etc) ..Agile has been shown to be an absolute abortion when it comes to IT projects... TSB anyone??

Prince is a government backed methodology for running projects, lots of paperwork and assurance. If your company wants to do any work with govt or govt agencies then you need to pretend to Prince 2.

Agile is a way of splitting projects into little bits at a time, with the scrum team agreeing what they can do in a sprint eg 2 weeks, I like it but done badly its just an excuse to do stuff quickly and badly

have a look on jobserve and see if anyone is asking for that qualification.
i do the odd teach yourself ITIL etc theyre boring but something on the CV.

for a PM I'd do an agile srcum course, 2 days for about a grand but you'll get it back in work, if you're freelancing

I don't rate the BCS training in other areas, never looked at this stuff. I'd go the book route if you actually want to learn about it, but if you just want to get the certificate then training courses save you a lot of time. Whether it's worth it is up to you innit?

£220. The courses themselves are ridiculous in cost and I'm confident I can teach myself.

I have a broad history of project management including some IT and performance management also.
